Melkan Bassil
Born in Beirut in 1974, Bassil continued life in Antibes, south of France from 1980, and spent time ‘here and there’ between 1998 and 2008. He is now back in Lebanon, having ‘re-rooted’ in 2009. He self-describes as Franco-Lebanese, enjoying a Mediterranean identity. He broke into his field of work as a visual artist in the multimedia field, building the first 360-degree tour of Lebanon in 2000. In 2010, at the World Expo in Shanghai, he created a unique interactive virtual room for the Lebanese Pavilion which received, over a period of 6 months, more than 5000 visitors a day. "Welcome to Libania" is Melkan's first printed essay to combine his panographic experience with digital manipulation.
